A man has died following a fatal shooting in Sydney’s south-west on Monday night, sparking a major police investigation as authorities appeal for public assistance.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 19, 2025, emergency services were called to a residence on Dalton Street in Condell Park after receiving reports of a shooting. Officers from the Bankstown Police Area Command arrived at the scene to find a man in his 20s suffering from a critical gunshot wound.
Despite the best efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the young man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been officially released, pending formal identification and notification of his next of kin.
The area surrounding the home has since been cordoned off and a crime scene has been established. Specialist forensic officers were called in and spent the night meticulously examining the site for evidence.
Police have also begun canvassing the neighborhood in hopes of gathering witness accounts, security footage, or any other details that might help piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the shooting was targeted or random. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether a suspect is in custody or if there are any persons of interest.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad are now assisting with the investigation, and the community is being urged to come forward with any information that might be relevant—no matter how minor it may seem. In particular, police are seeking dashcam or CCTV footage from the Dalton Street area around the time of the incident.
“This was a tragic and violent event that has left a young man dead and a family devastated,” a spokesperson for NSW Police said. “We are doing everything we can to establish the facts and bring those responsible to justice. The cooperation of the community is vital.”
The shooting has sent shockwaves through the usually quiet residential neighborhood of Condell Park, with many residents expressing fear and sadness in the wake of the violence. Several neighbors reported hearing a loud bang late Monday evening, but details remain scarce.
